Review: Inika All About Eyes Set

As you may have already been able to tell, I've really been enjoying Inika at the moment. I recently reviewed their Certified Organic BB Cream and I've also been testing a whole host of their products. Today I'm going to be talking about their All About Eyes gift set that includes both their bestselling Long Lash mascara* and the brand new Liquid Eyeliner*. You also receive a rather snazzy gift bag that is perfect for carrying round your everyday essentials. I'm a bit of a seasoned pro when it comes to liquid eyeliner and so I'm very picky about performance. Having yet to find a natural liquid eyeliner that really ticks all the boxes, I was keen to give Inika's offering a whirl.

I was intrigued by Inika's new liquid eyeliner mainly because of its packaging. Pre-natural/cruelty-free/vegan my liquid eyeliner of choice came in a very similar design. I found the long felt-tip nib extremely easy to use and I pretty much didn't stray until I learnt of the brand's dirty dealings in animal testing. Generally, I found the liner to be okay. In comparison to other natural liquid liners I have tried it goes on quite strongly upon first stroke. However, I did find - as shown above - that I had to keep dipping the nib back into the liquid as I found the product disappeared from the applicator super quickly. In addition to this, the nib is extremely hard and so product was easily moved around and almost even removed while you were trying to apply it. This also wasn't the most comfortable thing on my eye. Given the eyeliner's price, I would expect something a little more comfortable/easy to apply. Considering the fabulous quality of Inika's other products, I was a little disappointed by this. For now I have keeping to a non-natural (but still cruelty-free and vegan) alternative.

Fortunately, the mascara more than enough made up for the liner's poor performance. I've fallen pretty much head over heels for the Inika Long Lash mascara. The matte packaging looks super luxe, the brush is perfect for easy application, and the formula is super long-lasting. I don't wear mascara that often but when I do, I instantly reach for this. I can trust it to make me look more awake, and make my eyelashes look lovely, luscious, and long. Despite its focus being on lengthening, it's also really black and decently volumising.

Overall, I think this is a good set if you are wanting to give either the mascara, liner (or both) a go. Unfortunately I cannot see whether or not it is still available but you can get the mascara or liner seperately from LoveLula.

Review: Inika Certified Organic BB Cream Foundation

When I really fall in love with a product, it often happens that I forget to write a proper review as I'm too busy loving and using it. As much as this is a good thing, it often means I fail to share my fabulous discoveries. This is much exemplified by my feelings towards the Inika Certified Organic BB Cream Foundation*.  I fell in love with this product as soon as I started using it and I proceeded to use it almost religiously over the latter part of summer and autumn. I have always preferred the texture of BB creams to traditional foundations as, as much as I do suffer from acne, I do not enjoy the feeling or look of anything too full coverage. I like my skin to look like skin. This is definitely the feeling that I get with the Inika BB cream. It offers enough coverage to even out redness and cover small blemishes but is still natural enough to preserve my skin's own look and glow.

I am using the shade 'Cream,' which despite not being the palest shade (shock horror), blends out into a shade that works perfectly for my neutral/yellow-toned skin. I was originally worried about about the formula being too moisturising for my combination skin. Luckily it is just fine and any excess oil is kept at bay with some powder, either translucent or a powder foundation for some extra coverage on special occasions. I am very much glad that it does not contain any coconut oil - something that is very common with BB creams - and so, even with all the oils, it has never been too heavy or caused any breakouts.

It comes with the familiar BB cream claims of being a foundation, moisturiser, and primer in one but I will admit that I am yet to use it without some other kind of moisturiser underneath. This is mainly due to its lack of SPF (possibly my only criticism), and so I have been using it along with my favourite Hynt Beauty SPF - a mainstay of my long and everygrowing list of products to review on the blog.

If you are looking for a BB cream, I would urge you - no matter your skin type - to try a sample. Inika samples are readily available (and very well-priced) via the Lovelula website and have free delivery worldwide.

Review: Inika Ultimate Lip Tint in 'Cosmic'

If I'm honest, I've not really tried much from Inika. Despite being a pretty 'mainstream' vegan/natural make-up brand, I've only ever tried an eyeshadow from them. Therefore, I was rather excited when I noticed MyPure were stocking one of their newest releases, the Ultimate Lip Tints*. I decided to give the shade 'Cosmic' a go, which is a sheer burnt orange-red.

My very first impressions about the product were definitely wrapped up in the gorgeous packaging. Along with Inika's trademark black & gold, the lip tints come in sleek, thin bullets which are really easy to apply, and are surprisingly cleaner than traditional lipstick packaging. I would definitely say that these longer tubes are my preference when it comes to lip products. They also have a very satisfying click when closing. Don't you just love that? Packaging may be beautiful, but let’s get on to what really matters… what’s inside.

Formula-wise, it's really lovely. I was a bit skeptical at first, but upon testing I was glad to find that the product applies smoothly, and with a consistent colour. It is worth noting however that this product is most definitely a sheer tint, so don't be expecting any major pigmentation. But, as I said, the colour that it does have applies really evenly. This sheerness does actually work really well with the burnt orange-red colour, and the very slight shimmer really brightens the face. I'm not at all a shimmery lip kind of person, so don't worry - it is indeed slight and in no way garish. However, I'm still not sure if this shade is really for me and it would probably look better on someone with a slightly warmer skin tone. The other colours available look really lovely, I have my eye on 'Cherish' - a super glossy purple. Purple lips are my current vice. The ingredients are also really decent, being of course vegan, a high percentage organic, halal, and - most importantly for lip products - dye-free. Peppermint oil is also included, to give the products a really delicious minty taste and smell.

Overall, I am really impressed with my second dip in to Inika. However, I would say that the price is a downside. The RRP is £15.50, which I would consider a little steep for a lip tint. Saying that, you can find these on MyPure slightly discounted at £13.95.
