A Moment with Brija Cosmetics - Vegan Brand Spotlight

Welcome back to the 'official' Katie Vibes small vegan brand spotlight series! Over the next couple weeks I will be talking to a variety of 100% vegan small businesses about their products and why they find it so important to be a vegan brand. Brands will vary from makeup to skincare, and from widely-known to truly indie companies. Enjoy!

This week, I'm finishing up my first cycle of spotlights with the wonderful Brianna of natural and vegan makeup brand, Brija Cosmetics. You might also know her from her YouTube channel - iluvjesse444.

What brand do you represent and what is your title?
Brija Cosmetics, Owner and Founder.

Tell me a little about your brand - what was the motivation behind starting it?
I myself have been passionate about nontoxic products since I was sixteen years old. After focusing on skincare for a few years, I started purchasing from other mineral makeup companies that were releasing themed collections and they made me super excited. I decided to throw my ideas into the ring but only using very clean, simple ingredients. Our products are completely vegan, cruelty free, gluten free, palm oil free, and - very important to me - dye free. I have incredibly high ingredient standards and I wanted to create a brand that is not only affordable and fun, but safe.

Why do you find being a vegan brand so important?
Before starting Brija, I decided being a vegan brand was a no brainer. In my eyes, vegan products perform very similarly to non-vegan and there are vegan ingredients that can be so easily swapped for non-vegan. I welcomed the challenge and I knew I could make my products great without using any animal byproducts. I knew before I made my first product I would make it a vegan brand. Currently no vegan certifications but in the future I would definitely like to get some.

Tell me about some of your best-selling products?
The Adhesive Eye Wax is the front-runner right now for best-selling products. It's a oily wax consistency that most people doubt at first, thinking it would be too oily to keep shadows on. But with the thinest layer, it foils your eyeshadow and they won't move all day. For very oily lids, you can layer the Powder Eyeshadow Primer underneath.

Hoola Hoop Bronzer is our dupe for Benefit's Hula Bronzer. It's perfect for fair skin girls that get nervous about contouring/bronzing. It's not too orange or too dark, I use it every day.

Anything else you'd like to mention?
My favorite product from the line are the organic lipsticks. They were reformulated late last year to use organic oils - they are so silky and pigmented. Being a beauty vlogger, I've used a lot of nontoxic lip products, and the Brija lipsticks really are my favorite. I may be biased, but for $8, it is a bargain for a high quality organic lipstick.

Thanks Brianna!

Although not yet mentioned on the blog, I use and love so many of Brianna's products. My faves are the Stolen Luxury Highlighter, Hoola Hoop Bronzer, and the Cream Eyeshadows!

Brija is always releasing awesome makeup collections, the most recent being the Halloween and Wanderlust collections. Also - shhhh - the next collection is going to be a Titanic inspired dye-free lipstick collection! I'll see you there for that one...

A Moment with PHB Ethical Beauty - Vegan Brand Spotlight

Welcome back to the 'official' Katie Vibes small vegan brand spotlight series! Over the next couple weeks I will be talking to a variety of 100% vegan small businesses about their products and why they find it so important to be a vegan brand. Brands will vary from makeup to skincare, and from widely-known to truly indie companies. Enjoy!

This time I spoke to founder of PHB Ethical Beauty, Rose Brown. I love this brand and have featured them on my blog a few times before! Special shoutouts go to their mascara and hydrating toner.

What brand do you represent and what is your title?
PHB Ethical Beauty - Founder Rose Brown.

Tell me a little about your brand - what was the motivation behind starting it?
As a vegan I became increasingly concerned by the use of animal ingredients in mainstream beauty products and also the amount of synthetic fragrances, colourants and other chemicals that big companies put into their products. I became determined to create a pioneering brand that was free from harsh chemicals, uses natural and organic botanical ingredients and is also vegan, halal and cruelty free.

Why do you find being a vegan brand so important?
Living in tune with your beliefs and your body is vital to feeling happy and balanced. I have been a vegetarian since I was little but a couple of years ago I made the leap to being a vegan. It has been one of the best decisions I have ever made. I am one with all living creatures, my body is in balance and I have more energy than ever before.

A Moment with MuLondon - Vegan Brand Spotlight

Welcome back to the 'official' Katie Vibes small vegan brand spotlight series! Over the next couple weeks I will be talking to a variety of 100% vegan small businesses about their products and why they find it so important to be a vegan brand. Brands will vary from makeup to skincare, and from widely-known to truly indie companies. Enjoy!

Boris_bw2-1.jpg

This time I spoke to Boris from one of my absolute favourite British brands, MuLondon.

What brand do you represent and what is your title?
Hi! I'm Boris and I'm the Founder & Head Cream-Whipper at MuLondon.

Tell me a little about your brand - what was the motivation behind starting it?
MuLondon is an all-natural, organic and vegan artisan skincare brand, based in London. We make products for dry, sensitive and problem skin using only the finest certified organic materials: shea butter, jojoba oil, coconut butter, hemp seed oil, healing herbal extracts and precious essential oils.

I started MuLondon because of my own skin issues - eczema, psoriasis and reactive skin. Wanting to find a more natural, cruelty-free solution to steroid creams, I started making my own products. MuLondon's philosophy is to use mild, effective and time-proven herbs like soothing chamomile, anti-inflammatory marigold and calming lavender. Our formulas are simple but potent, and contain as few ingredients as possible, to suit even the most sensitive skin types. We do not use any chemical preservatives or petrochemical ingredients like mineral oil, silicones or emulsifiers.

Why do you find being a vegan brand so important?
As a vegan myself, I would not have it any other way than having a 100% vegan skincare company. Using animal ingredients is dated, unnecessary and cruel. MuLondon has a number of cruelty-free and vegan certifications and endorsements: The Vegan Society, PETA, Viva!, Naturewatch, Choose Cruelty Free Australia and SAFE New Zealand. We're also a registered Humane Corporation, which means we do not support any charities that fund or conduct animal testing.

Tell me about some of your best-selling products?
All MuLondon products sell well, and what is interesting is that because of our international customer base, best-sellers vary from country to country. Overall, these three are always big customer favourites:

MuLondon Organic Rose, Rosehip & Rosemary Moisturiser: Luxury face cream with Rose Otto oil, Rosehip Extract and Rosemary Antioxidant. This amazing trio will pamper, balance and nourish dry, irritated and sensitive skin.

MuLondon Organic White Chocolate Truffle Moisturiser: Indulge your skin and your senses in this luxury, delicious and decadent spread for your face and body. Contains fragrant extracts of Cocoa and pure Bourbon Vanilla - to spoil, pamper and excite.

MuLondon Organic Hemp Moisturiser: Fresh, woody, smoky, green and mystical - this moisturiser heals and protects with organic Shea Butter and pure cold-pressed Hemp Seed Oil. Black Spruce, Vetivert Root and Cedar Wood oils are blended to create a uniquely fragranced cream that appeals to both men and women. (Katie: This is one of my absolute favourites!)

It's wonderful to see how many people around the world are actively looking for cruelty-free and vegan skincare. We're delighted that MuLondon is on their radar, and that we have received such amazing support from the vegan community. Thank you for helping to spread the word, Katie! ❤

Thank you Boris!

I really don't shut up about MuLondon's Limited Edition White Choc Elbow, Knee and Heel Cream. Read my review of it here. I have also mentioned it in my Winter Essentials, Summer-Ready Products, and Best Vegan Beauty of 2014.

A Moment with Skin Blossom - Vegan Brand Spotlight

So here we go, the 'official' Katie Vibes small vegan brand spotlight series! Over the next couple weeks I will be talking to a variety of 100% vegan small businesses about their products and why they find it so important to be a vegan brand. Brands will vary from makeup to skincare, and from widely-known to truly indie companies. Enjoy!

First up, I spoke to a brand that I constantly recommend for value, Skin Blossom. I took a few moments with founder, Cris.

chris_melanie-25_large.jpg

What brand do you represent and what is your title?
Cris, founder of Skin Blossom Ltd.

Tell me a little about your brand - what was the motivation behind starting it?
I started Skin Blossom in 2007 in a bid to make beautiful organic skin and hair care affordable to people. As a big fan of natural products I found that the nice organic beauty products were really pricey. So hence Skin Blossom was born!

Why do you find being a vegan brand so important?
I love animals and wildlife so do not believe that they should be used in beauty products and we are completely cruelty free. The full Skin Blossom range is certified by the Vegan Society so customers can be sure of our integrity.

Tell me about some of your best-selling products?
As our range is quite small with only 12 products, it offers all you need for an effective organic skin and hair care regime. All the products are everyday essentials and sell quickly. If I had to pick one product to try as an introduction to the range I would suggest our Caring Hand Cream which is only £5.95 for 75ml. It is a lovely treat for hard working and dry hands!

Thanks Cris!
